We’ve had another tough time selecting the winning photographs for our 2010 Landscape Photography Contest… with well over four thousand entries, the task of whittling down so many technically excellent shots was quite a challenge! We would like to thank everyone who entered and we hope to see many more of your photographs in future contests!

First of all, a big thank you to everyone who entered our Landscape Photography Contest, once again we have been amazed by the quality of the entries received! The winning photographs will be announced by the end of this month.

The third competition in our 2010 photo contest series is now open for entries. The theme is “Wildlife”. We are looking for images of wild animals that stand out from the crowd… maybe it will be a striking portrait that catches our eye or perhaps the image will reveal an interesting aspect of an animal’s behaviour. Photographs of animals in captivity are eligible for entry but if this is the case, please disclose it in the caption. Please note that photos of domestic animals such as pets and livestock are not eligible. The deadline for this contest is 31st October 2010.

We have some fantastic prizes on offer including the chance to win a Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR camera (more info).

Selecting the winning photographs for our Pet Portraits photo contest has been an epic undertaking! We had around 4,500 entries and the overall standard was incredibly high. There were so many cute and characterful pets and so many talented photographers that judging this contest was a pleasure and a privilege. We had so many favourites that whittling down the numbers for this blog post was quite a challenge. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who entered.

We are excited to announce a new series of Burrard-Lucas photo contests for 2010! We will be holding four themed competitions on Burrard-Lucas.com and a further competition on our Facebook page.

We have a fantastic grand prize on offer: a Canon EOS 7D digital SLR camera!

The individual contests will be open for two months. At the end of each contest we will select a winner, two runners up and several highly commended images. The following prizes will be awarded:

Grand prize

At the end of the year we will look at the four Burrard-Lucas.com contest winners plus the Facebook Fan contest winner and pick our Overall Winner for 2010. We will make this decision based on which of the five photos we consider to be the most striking and original. The Overall Winner will win the grand prize, a Canon EOS 7D digital SLR camera.

We would like to thank everyone who submitted photos to our Mysterious Places Photo Contest. Matthew and I spent days sifting through thousands of fantastic entries and last week we posted our shortlist of 12 finalists so that you could vote for the “People’s Choice” winner. The voting is now over and we can reveal the overall winners!

Before proceeding, we would like to thank our terrific sponsors, Lensbaby and SmugMug, who generously donated over $2,000 in prizes! All of the photographers below receive a prize as described on this page.

The overall contest winner is Paul Marcellini with his wonderful image taken in a Florida swamp. The spooky atmosphere, the twisted trees and the detail of the alligator drag-marks in the foreground create an image that epitomises the theme “Mysterious Places”. Congratulations to Paul for creating a truly original and striking shot!
