I’m delighted to announce that next October, I will be leading an exclusive 7-day photographic safari in Zambia’s iconic South Luangwa National Park. There are just eight spaces on this trip and two of them are up for grabs in my new giveaway! Enter the giveaway here.

In 2012 I moved to Zambia for a year and much of my time was spent exploring and photographing the wildlife of the Luangwa Valley. It is a corner of Africa that is very close to my heart.

This safari is primarily a photographic safari, so our focus will be on maximising our chances of photographing interesting subjects in good light. However, this trip is going to be a wonderful experience for anyone looking for an immersive African safari. Non-photographer spouses and friends are very welcome.

There are just eight spaces on this trip so there will be plenty of time for one-on-one tuition and advice. I can cover areas such as mastering your camera settings, creative wildlife photography techniques, fieldcraft and post-production in Lightroom. I will also be happy to teach you about remote & camera trap photography and business & marketing for photographers.

We will be staying at Mfuwe Lodge (of elephants in reception fame) and the intimate Bilimungwe Bushcamp. Bilimungwe has just four rooms so we will have the entire camp to ourselves.

In October-November each year, a family of elephants regularly walk through reception at Mfuwe Lodge!

The Luangwa Valley is well known as one of the best places in Africa to see the elusive leopard. There is also a reasonable chance that we may get to photograph one of the rarest and most charismatic of Africa’s predators – African wild dogs.

Our trip will take place in October which is the culmination of the long dry-season. At this time of year, all of the wildlife is forced to congregate around the river and waterholes. The herbivores are easy pickings for the Valley’s predators and it is even possible to observe lions hunting during the day.

Carmine Bee-eaters

Another highlight at this time of year is the arrival of carmine bee-eaters to nesting sites up and down the Valley. The bee-eaters nest in huge colonies which makes for some spectacular photographic opportunities!

Find out how you can win two spaces on this safari in my new safari giveaway.
